| ONTARIO REALTY CORPORATION, ELLIS DON CONSTRUCTION AND CORRECTIONS CANADA |  | | | | Ergonomic Design Recommendations of Control Rooms for Correctional Facilities | | | | ERGO Inc. was hired to develop design guidelines for the Control Room set up for the Central Ontario North Correctional Facility. This project involved completing a detailed ergonomic and demands analysis review of several existing Correctional Facilities’ Control Rooms to understand the physical, cognitive and mental demands placed on employees during task performance within a Control Room. The second phase of this project involved the review of each design stage’s blueprints and CAD drawings. The Control Room’s workstation parameters were compared to design guidelines. Standards and recommendations for design improvements were presented throughout the design stage to the team. Recommendations included set up and design guidelines for workstations, monitors, touch-screen technology as well as positioning of the employees in the Control Room.
Upon completion of this study, Corrections Canada requested that ERGO Inc. develop general ergonomic guidelines for Control Room design in Correctional Facilities across Canada. This guideline is available as a resource to ensure all Control Room’s are designed and built within ergonomic parameters.
